The Story of My Life Poster

Overview:

“The Story of My Life” is a profoundly funny and deeply moving tale of lifelong best friends Thomas and Alvin. This two-person musical explores the complexities of friendship, the personal cost of success and the choices we make at the turning points in our lives. Thomas Weaver is a best-selling, award-winning author. Alvin Kelby was his best friend for thirty years. But time can test the bonds of friendship, and when it does, Thomas calls on the only resource he has - his stories of Alvin - to learn where things went wrong. A richly melodic musical, The Story Of My Life is a tribute to the power of friendship and the people who change our lives forever.

One of the Chicago Muse Reading Committee members who reviewed and rated The Story of My Life commented: “No one could possibly leave this theatre without being moved in some way. On top of that, the story itself is brilliant and strong. I was hooked, crying, and laughing within the first 5 pages... now that is saying something.” “Story of My Life” won composer and lyricist Neil Bartram four Drama Desk nominations and two awards for Outstanding Music and Outstanding Lyrics.

This production will represent the Midwest Premiere and a new version of “Story of My Life.” Most shows come to Chicago to be worked on before heading off to NY - in the case of “The Story of My Life,” Neil Bartram and Brian Hill (book writer) had the unique opportunity to learn a great deal from their Broadway experience that inspired them to re-work the show exclusively for our audiences here in Chicago. We are also delighted to announce that Tony-Award winning Director Richard Maltby, Jr. will be at the helm.
